We have had some reports of users having trouble with some of the
new 56kb modems and some 33.6kb modems. These problems include
difficulty connecting and being disconnected. In most cases,
these problems are caused by excessive line noise or the 56kb train
sequence. These problems can be easily corrected by adding the
appropriate modem strings in the control panel under the properties
of your modem. You will want to add the init string to tell
your modem to set its maximum connect speed to 28.8kb, lowering or
increasing the maximum until your problem disappears. In
addition, if you have a 56kb modem you will want to add the string
to disable 56kb negotiation. These init strings will be found
in your modem’s user guide. We have a few common one’s listed
below, if you don’t see your modem listed e-mail tech support and we will do our
best to find the string for your modem.
